Frequently Asked Questions
Newsrc file format
Question:
How can I read a newsrc file that newsreaders use?
Answer:
The file generally contains a single line for each newsgroup
containing the newsgroup name, then a ":" character denoting
a subscribed newsgroup or a "!" character denotning an
unsubscribed newsgroup. This information is followed by a
list of already read articles using a comma-delimited list
of article numbers. The numbers are the article numbers the
NNTP server has assigned for each article. Note that article
numbers can contain ranges delimited with the "-" character.
