Frequently Asked Questions

Newsrc file format

Question:

How can I read a newsrc file that newsreaders use?

Answer:

The file generally contains a single line for each newsgroup

containing the newsgroup name, then a ":" character denoting

a subscribed newsgroup or a "!" character denotning an

unsubscribed newsgroup. This information is followed by a

list of already read articles using a comma-delimited list

of article numbers. The numbers are the article numbers the

NNTP server has assigned for each article. Note that article

numbers can contain ranges delimited with the "-" character.

Examples:

borland.public.delphi.database.multi-tier! 1-2885,3230,3313,3347,3682

borland.public.vdbase.thirdpartytools! 1-3

borland.public.datagateway: 1-574

borland.public.delphi.graphics: 1-1885
